Monitor PageSpeed and real-user experience signals in context

Core Web Vitals monitoring is only useful in context. WindspeedSEO tracks PageSpeed lab measurements and CrUX real-user field data over time, tied to the templates and pages they affect, so a performance regression is visible as a change rather than as a score you have grown used to ignoring.

A performance score on its own changes nothing

Everyone has run a page speed test, received a number, felt briefly bad about it, and closed the tab. The reason that cycle repeats is that a single score has no context: you cannot tell whether it got worse, which release caused it, whether real visitors experience it, or whether it is costing you anything.

Monitoring supplies the missing context. The same pages are measured the same way over time, results are grouped by template so a regression is attributable to a code change rather than to one unlucky URL, and lab measurements sit beside real-user data instead of standing in for it.

What is monitored

Lab measurements

Controlled PageSpeed runs on tracked pages, repeated on a schedule so before-and-after comparison around a release is valid.

Real-user field data

CrUX aggregates where Google reports them for your origin or pages, reflecting actual devices and connections rather than a test environment.

Template grouping

Findings grouped by page template, because a slow product template is one problem, not four hundred separate ones.

Regression detection

Comparison against the previous measurement, so a change is raised when it happens rather than noticed at the next audit.

Business context

Performance findings weighed against the search and analytics value of the pages affected, like every other finding.

Honest gaps

Where CrUX has insufficient data, that is reported as insufficient data rather than filled in with a lab score.

Keeping performance in proportion

Performance deserves attention, and it does not deserve to be the first thing on the list. If a commercial page is excluded from the index by a robots directive, its Largest Contentful Paint is irrelevant. Indexation and canonical correctness gate whether a page can rank at all; performance adjusts how well it competes once it can.

WindspeedSEO’s prioritization reflects that ordering, which is why a performance finding on a high-value template will outrank a canonical problem on an archive page, but not the reverse.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between PageSpeed and CrUX data?

PageSpeed Insights runs a controlled laboratory test — same conditions each time, useful for diagnosis and for comparing before and after a change. CrUX reports the Chrome User Experience Report: aggregated measurements from real Chrome users on real connections and devices.

Lab data tells you what is slow and why. Field data tells you whether your actual visitors experience it.

Do I need to set anything up for Core Web Vitals monitoring?

No. PageSpeed and CrUX are platform-managed, so there is no account to connect, no script to install and no configuration to maintain. Monitoring begins with the rest of your baseline.

Why does my site have no CrUX field data?

Because CrUX only reports where Chrome has collected enough traffic to produce a statistically meaningful aggregate. Smaller sites frequently have no field data, or have it only at origin level rather than per page.

When that happens, WindspeedSEO says so rather than substituting lab scores and presenting them as real-user experience.

Which Core Web Vitals metrics are tracked?

The current Core Web Vitals set as reported by Google — loading, interactivity and visual stability — alongside the overall PageSpeed assessment. Because Google has changed the specific metrics in this set before, WindspeedSEO reports what Google currently publishes rather than hard-coding a fixed list into a marketing claim.

How much does performance affect SEO?

Less than performance vendors suggest and more than nothing. Page experience is a real but modest ranking input, and it matters most where competing pages are otherwise similar. Its larger effect is usually on conversion rather than on position.

WindspeedSEO therefore ranks performance findings below indexation and canonical problems, which directly control whether a page can rank at all.

Does WindspeedSEO fix performance problems?

It identifies them, locates them by template and page, and tracks whether they improve. On Managed Automation, performance work that falls within SEO implementation scope can be assigned to a developer and verified. Deep engineering work on application code remains with your own team.

How often is performance data refreshed?

Lab measurements are taken on a schedule frequent enough to catch a regression after a release. Field data updates on Google’s own CrUX cadence, which is slower by design because it aggregates real-user measurements over a rolling window.

Watch performance as a trend, not a score

PageSpeed and CrUX monitoring is included on both plans with no setup required.
